Dr Chris Jephcott
Speaker Chris grew up in England and graduated in medicine from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 1993. Having completed house jobs in the UK he came out to New Zealand where he fell in love with the country and a Kiwi psychologist called Mel.In 2002 Chris and Mel were caught in a house fire and Mel was badly injured. Thankfully she has since made a good recovery, but for Chris her time in hospital highlighted the challenges of providing adequate and safe analgesia for burns patients requiring dressings changes and wound debridements on the burns ward.Chris was appointed as a consultant anaesthetist at Waikato Hospital in 2007 and as head of the acute pain service developed processes that helped to address and improve burns management at Waikato Hospital. These techniques have since found wider application for the provision of procedural analgesia in many other areas of the hospital.He was awarded the NZ Society of Anaesthetists visiting lectureship in 2011 and has used this opportunity to disseminate some of these practices to other hospitals around the country.Interests outside of work include travel, photography and playing guitar in a band.
Dr Steve Smith
Speaker Dr Steve Smith is an Anaesthetist and Pain Medicine Specialist at Gosford and Wyong Hospitals on the New South Wales Central Coast. Steve has an interest in acute pain and cancer pain and is medical lead of the Central Coast Integrated Pain Service.
