Marina Chiara Garassino MD, is currently the Chief of the Thoracic Oncology Unit at Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, Milano.
As a head, she lead the strategy for clinical and translational research in advanced and locally advanced NSCLC, mesothelioma and thymic malignancies. Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan is one the most important cancer center in Italy, and one of the most important in Europe.
As a medical oncologist, she has done research in precision medicine and in immuno-oncology. Her main research interests have been: NSCLC, SCLC, mesothelioma and development of biomarkers. She has contributed to over 150 peer-reviewed publications, including publications as first or last author in the Lancet Oncology, JCO, Annals of Oncology, New England Journal of Medicine. She had several presentations at international congresses including ASCO, ESMO, ECCO, WCLC.
Her education includes the degree and further specialization in Medical Oncology at University of Study of Milan (110/110 cum laude) in 1995. She completed her training with a ESMO fellowship in 2009 at Christie's Hospital in Manchester. She achieved a Master Degree in Oncology management at University of Economics “Luigi Bocconi”.
She served as ESMO National Representative for 8 years (2011-2019). She is a member of several ESMO Task forces (Public Policy extended Committee, Press Committee, Publishing Working Group, Women for Oncology; Chair, ESMO National Societies Committee - from 2019).
She’s serving on ESMO, WCLC and ASCO annual congress Lung Cancer Track (2019-2020). She is the founder and president of Women for Oncology Italy.
